About Mark Martinho

"I always tell my kids to find something to do in life that will allow them to wake up each morning and look forward to their day."

I was born in Canada, but at the age of two my family moved back to Portugal, where I spent the next decade growing up. When I was almost 12, we moved to Santa Barbara, and a couple years later to the Bay Area. That experience of moving between countries and cultures at a young age gave me a broader perspective early on, learning how to adapt, observe, and appreciate different ways of living.

During my college years, I worked local construction jobs while earning my Mechanical Engineering degree, along with a heavy course load in business. That combination of hands-on work and structured thinking shaped how I approach problems even today. After graduating, I worked as an engineer at companies like IBM, Seagate, and Applied Materials. One of the highlights of my engineering career was working with my father, Francisco Martinho and it would have been nice if I could have also done a stint with my engineer brother, Frank Martinho, but alas that never happened.

Some years later I left engineering and employed my business education at Merrill Lynch as a Research Analyst covering companies with multi-billion dollar market caps. Over time, I realized that while the work was challenging, what mattered more to me was how my life was structured around it.

In 2003, I decided to pursue one of my professional passions, Real Estate. Already invested in both the residential and commercial property sector, I decided to make it a full-time career. The change brought some very important benefits. It kept me closer to home and my family coupled with allowing me to develop deeper, long-term relationships with my clients and community. The flexible realtor schedule also allowed for another goal, to earn a Law Degree, which I completed in 2013.

Like many people in our age, I’ve gone through different chapters, different careers, and different priorities… And over time, you start to think differently about what matters day to day. Simplicity becomes more important. Being close to family matters more. Living in a way that feels sustainable starts to guide our decisions.

Why we made Bay Area Boomers

“We’ve both spent most of our lives in the Bay Area, watching it grow and change as we’ve grown and aged alongside it. We’ve raised our families here, built lasting relationships, and grown a thriving business. This is home… for now.

Over time, our work has organically shifted toward helping senior clients downsize; whether relocating out of the area or moving into a local senior community. Along the way, we’ve helped answer many questions by researching key topics and building a trusted network of advisors.

BayAreaBoomers.com is a result of that experience. It’s designed to offer practical, helpful information for Bay Area seniors navigating this stage of life, whether that means downsizing, staying in place, or just exploring what’s next.

We also believe in full transparency. As real estate professionals, we hope that when the time comes, some readers may choose to work with us. That said, our primary goal is that you find real value here.

We’re glad you’re here.”
